Top Ten Broadcasting School Myths Debunked

Think you know everything there is to know about broadcasting school? Think again. Here are some common misconceptions about broadcasting school, along with the facts that prove them false!

1. It takes a lot of your time. You can finish broadcasting school in as little as six months, with sessions taking place just once a week, and generally for only an hour at a time. Most of the coursework is done offsite, so you can complete it when you have time, rather than scheduling your life around it.

2. You can't go to broadcasting school and keep your regular job. Since your broadcasting school schedule will work around your life schedule, you can easily keep your regular job while you're attending school.

3. It's just like college. Broadcasting school won't cost the time or anywhere near the money required for a university education, or even community college. Forget what you know about traditional schooling — broadcasting school is more along the lines of an apprenticeship, learning on location rather than in a classroom.

4. You won't be accredited for the time you spend. The Broadcaster's Training Network is a fully accredited school, where you'll earn three credits per semester, totaling twenty-four by the time you complete your coursework and graduate.

5. They'll only teach you how to DJ. Broadcasting school is for more than just future radio DJs! Whether your career path lies within broadcasting directly, as a sports announcer or a talk radio host, or you want to become part of the lucrative world of voiceover acting, broadcasting school will show you how. Want to stay behind the scenes? Broadcasting school can teach you how to be a production engineer, too.

6. It's impossible to afford. Not only is broadcasting school a tiny fraction of the cost of a four year university, financial aid is readily available for qualified candidates

7. You still won't be able to break into the job market. The National Broadcaster's Training Network has a 90% placement rate for graduates, compared with 10-12% for university graduates in the broadcasting field.

8. Like with college, you have to be where the school is in order to attend. Broadcasting school is wherever you are! Unlike a typical college, you won't have to move anywhere to be closer to school. You'll be placed with a local radio station, often one of your top two or three choices for placement.

9. You won't get the one-on-one attention you'll need to really learn. With broadcasting school, you'll get nothing but one-on-one training! Like an apprenticeship, broadcasting school places you with an expert in your chosen field of study (in this case, radio). You'll be the only student there!

10. You don't need broadcasting school to get a job in radio. Breaking into the job market isn't as easy as you'd think — even university graduates have trouble finding positions out of college. With a broadcasting school education at the National Broadcaster's Training Network, you'll get the benefit of a 90% job placement rate. Graduates very often get placed at the radio station they trained at, as employers benefit from hiring someone they're familiar with, and who knows their way around the station. Broadcasting school is quite simply your first step to success in the radio world!
