Broadcasting School Spotlight: Sports Broadcasting

"He shoots…he scores!" It's a familiar phrase, and one you could be speaking to thousands, even millions, with the sports broadcasting career you'll get with your broadcasting school education. Sports broadcasting is a dream job for sports fans, letting you spend your nights in the stadium's best seats, calling every play in a game, keeping the crowd informed. Whether they're in the stands or listening intently on the radio, your voice could be the one they're hearing!

With a broadcasting school education, you'll be well-prepared for the exciting, fast-paced career of a sports broadcaster. Sportscasters are generally defined by two different categories: play-by-play announcers, who describe and discuss the game as it happens, and color commentators, often former athletes or coaches brought in to spark discussion topics and keep the broadcast interesting when the players are off the field.

Play-by-play announcers are needed at nearly every level of sports from the minors to the majors. Find the venue that best suits your interests and you'll best be able to begin working your way up!

High school: Do you live in a football town? You're not the only one. In smaller towns around the country, high school sports can unite a town, bringing people together on Friday nights to cheer on their team. If you're community-minded and invested in the local teams, a career in high school sports broadcasting after broadcasting school could be for you.

College: Just because you'd rather do broadcasting school than devote four years to university, it doesn't mean you should miss out on the thrills of college football. While your high school classmates are playing the field, you could be the one preparing to take the stands and do the play-by-play on their games.

Major-league: When your boys turn on the radio to listen to the big game, your voice could be the one they hear! With the skills you'll learn in broadcasting school and your whole-hearted devotion to your sport of choice, you could gain the rapt audience you've always hoped to receive. You'll learn to refine your speech until you're easily understand, making it easy for your listeners to keep up with each game, where every second counts.

TV Broadcasting: If you're embarking on a sports broadcasting career after broadcasting school, your ultimate goal may be to get on television. If a desk at ESPN sounds like your idea of day job, then work hard and long to accomplish that goal. With perseverance and a broadcastings school education, that career could be yours!
