Inside traxx: Diary of DJ Sisyphus

Paid in the Shade?

What's up, this is your would-be disc jockey, DJ Sisyphus, feeling more than a little like the mountain is winning. Its days like this I don't know if I'll ever become a radio DJ like my idol DJ Loco on WDRQ. Loco is the coolest, craziest cat in the disc jockey biz, and I know I could be just like him if I had my own show! I know it! But my hopes of going to broadcasting school aren't looking so good right now.

A quick recap: I need $50 to register for The National Broadcasting Training Network broadcasting school, so I can get my foot in the door at a local radio station. However, I'm broke as a joke and my part time jobs at Mixmaster Records and babysitting my sister just aren't enough to make ends.

I tried to use my natural ingenuity, going to neighbors and offering to do odd jobs, errands, and the like. Turns out everyone already has or doesn't need a lawnmower, dog walker, baby sitter, hamster trainerokay, I was desperate. Anyways, the bottom line is, my neighbors shut me down, so as long as I'm living on the cool $3 a week I make at Mix, it doesn't look like I'm going to be enrolling in broadcasting school any time soon.

Hold on a sec, the phone's ringing. Holy smokes, that was Keisha! I can't believe she called me. Anyways she said her and the girls from her church were having a car wash on Sunday, to help pay for a mission trip they are taking to Honduras. She said she heard I was a DJ (score) and said if I provide the entertainment for the car wash, I could have a percentage of the profits. How awesome is this: a chance to hang out with Keisha, expose the world to my jammin' DJ sound, and make the money I need to make my broadcasting school dreams a reality... sweet! Sure beats hamster training too.

With a little stoke of signature Sisyphus luck, a week from now, I'll be getting paid in the shade as I rock my beats to a crowd of fans. Hopefully, I'll make enough money for the broadcasting training program, plus impress Keisha enough to get her to go out with me. Watch out world! It looks like DJ Sisyphus is back on top!

Until next time,
DJ Sisyphus
